Man arrested for illegal kerosene

AKARTA: Jakarta Police arrested a truck driver on Wednesday, labeling him suspect in an illegal kerosene distribution racket, an officer said on Wednesday.

Identified only as BS, the suspect was later detained at Jakarta Police detention center.

"He was arrested because he failed to provide us with legal documents for the kerosene," Adj. Sr. Comr. Rudi Setiawan of Jakarta Police said.

In a preliminary questioning session, the suspect admitted to having transported the kerosene from Lampung, and said he had intended to sell it in North Jakarta, Rudi added.

Along with the arrest, the police had also confiscated some 2,800 liters of kerosene that was being stored in nine large drums in different locations.

Rudi said the suspect was accused of violating the Natural Gas and Oil Law and could face up to five years in prison if found guilty.
